Key

The Key of G major

G major is G – A – B – C – D – E – F♯.

Why this key

G major is arguably the guitar's home key. G, C, D, Em and Am are all open shapes, the low E and A strings ring under most of them, and the single sharp (F♯) sits under a finger you already have down. Folk, country and a great deal of rock live here for no deeper reason than that the instrument makes it easy.
