Minor Chord Progressions

Minor tonic with ♭III, ♭VI and ♭VII

A minor tonic with the flattened third, sixth and seventh the natural minor scale supplies. No chord is borrowed and nothing is raised — these are the chords the key already contains, which is why they sound settled rather than dramatic.

The chords, in every key

Every progression below moves together, so the comparison stays honest.

What actually differs

The epic-minor and festival loops are the same four chords in a different order, and the order decides whether the loop broods or lifts: starting i–♭VI drops a third immediately and sits dark, while starting i–♭III rises into the relative major before falling away, which is why one is a metal riff and the other is a festival drop. The Andalusian cadence is the only one here that raises anything — its V is major, borrowed from harmonic minor, and that single raised third is what makes the descent i–♭VII–♭VI–V sound Spanish rather than merely sad. The minor anthem is that same descent without the raised V, turning back at ♭VI instead of resolving. The reggae vamp is the shortest of the set at two chords, and it is the one progression in the catalogue that states no sixth degree at all, which leaves the scale genuinely ambiguous between Aeolian and Dorian. The trap loop is the outlier: it moves i–♭VI–iv–v with a minor v, so it never pulls home the way a raised V would.
